He gave up smoking when he got appendix prob, 1990. I went to see him then, in hospital in North Wales. Years later 2013, he suffered a fall. Was hospitalised, refused drip feed, think he'd had enough. Died 12 the June 2013, aged 80. Heavy drinker all his life. Merchant Navy Captain. Tough as they come.
