Tokyo..

fact you didnt know. Kyoto was the capital of Japan for centuries. And Kyoto means capital in Japanese. The full name of tokyo is tokyoto or eastern capital but it gets shortened to Tokyo.

its ferking enormous. Like a giant never ending Croydon but dotted with interesting markets and speciality shopping areas like the cartoon area we went through this morning. Whole area devoted to japanese cartoon characters, shops, publishers, printworks etc and so on. A huge cult apparently called Manga

Very clean, no garbage in the streets, no overflowing bins and no graffiti . Interestingly in common with the 3 cities visited so far, next to no motorbikes ( in the land of honda, yamaha etc ).

More foreign cars, saw a few minis and Porsches.

Imperial palace big but you dont see much. The national visitor centre at the second imperial palace is a kind of copy of Buckingham Palace and at least as big.

You know they drive on the left but not why. The first cars here were Austins and along with the import they asked the UK to show them how to manage motorised traffic. Hence.

Coming back in 10 days or so for a couple of days so todays intro tour ( and trip up the Tokyo tower ) was a good idea. Staying in Ginza ( silver place ) when we come back.

Osaka tomorrow.
