I am extremely anxious about the growth of PPI payments…
Number of people on disability benefits passes 4m for first time More than 33pc of claimants cite poor mental health as their ‘main disabling condition’
The number of people on disability benefits has surpassed four million for the first time as mental health claims continue to surge.
Data published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showed 4.01 million people were entitled to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) as of April this year.
Claims for Britain’s main disability benefit are up by more than 7pc compared with a year ago.
More than a third of people entitled to PIP now cite poor mental health as their “main disabling condition”, with “generalised anxiety or depressive disorders” the single most cited reason.
