Two great things about Israel. 1. the national anthem. Germany gives it a run for the money but Israel wins. 2. the language. Hebrew is a terrific language. Nice on the ear when you get used to it, beautiful script. Beats french in that it only uses the plural vous form when talking to more than one person. It's logical, there's no formal/polite vous, which can be a real pain in the arse and a barrier to 'free speech'.
You: Ata (masculine) At feminine (at as in hat) (ata as in matter (matta)) You: You lot ... Atem, for groups of men or women.
I spent 6months learning it 5 mornings a week at an 'ulpan' with fellow students who'd come to settle in Israel from all over the world .. even though part of me knew it was a waste of time as no good outside Israel, and I didn't know if I'd stay (I didn't). I wouldn't mind but after nearly 40 years I've forgotten 96% of it.
