Drill baby drill’: Why Donald Trump’s fracking revolution will leave Britain in the dust
US fossil fuels are now vital to keep the UK’s lights on and boilers working

This week the US Energy Information Administration published data showing that under Biden, US crude oil production had hit a new record.

But even at those levels, it’s clear that the US is charting a very different course on fossil fuels than the UK and Europe – with those differences poised to generate increasing tensions.

Those tensions have already been set out by Wright who, as chief executive of fracking company Liberty Energy, has become a leading critic of the UK’s net zero policies.

He wrote recently: “The UK, although no longer part of the EU, has continued aggressive climate policies that have driven up energy prices for its citizens and industry. The results are troubling.”

He points out that primary energy consumption in the UK has been falling sharply since 2005, mainly because energy-intensive industries have quit the country to escape high prices.

He warns that this is a clear sign of economic and industrial decline, adding: “The once world-leading United Kingdom now has a per capita income lower than even the poorest state in the United States.”
