You are told that no one in Japan speaks English and you cant get around cos everythings in Japanese. Not so, most people appear to speak some english and the yoof speak a lot , plus for example, all the tube stations have english nameplates as do the streets. Biggest chain of convenience stores is Lawsons. etc
