Met three guys in the park the other evening, got talking to them, 2 mid 60s, one 73.
Americans, living in Nice.
Great conversation on the state of the US today, the divisions, which to me appear greater than ever (vastly different from my experiences travelling there in 1987).
None of them expressed a desire to return to the US.
Probably said this before, but I do think that as an expat, you develop a more objective view of your country.
It's a variation of the boiling frog thing - people who live in the UK may not notice the gradual increase in control, the reductions in their freedoms, stuff we took for granted in say the 1980s and 90s.
But if your trips back are spaced out a fair bit, it really is striking.
