More than two in three people with injuries caused by Covid vaccines have been denied compensation because
they are “not disabled enough”.
The Covid Inquiry heard how 416 (68 per cent) of the 610 people whom doctors have deemed came to harm because of their vaccination had been unsuccessful in their claims, according to new data.
Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, is considering changing the law to create a specific compensation scheme for Covid vaccinations, The Telegraph understands, amid criticism of the existing requirements and payments.
People affected by vaccines have to prove how disabled they are to get a flat £120,000 payout.
Independent doctors assess whether a person is more than 60 per cent disabled – or “severely disabled” – based on a 1982 Act used to identify who should receive benefits.
It provides a range of potential injuries and the associated percentage of disability this would result in, but mostly focuses on a range of amputations, blindness and deafness.
