The United States is a major producer of light, sweet crude oil (such as West Texas Intermediate) but often
imports heavier, sourer grades to meet the specific requirements of its complex refining infrastructure. While the U.S. produces, consumes, or imports a vast variety of global crude types, certain specific, highly localized, or extremely heavy grades are not typically found or produced within the United States. Kimray Kimray +4 Extra-Heavy Crude Oil & Bitumen (in situ): While Canada and Venezuela have vast deposits of extremely thick "extra-heavy" crude (sometimes referred to as bitumen), the U.S. produces very little of this type. Canada's oil sands are the primary source for this heavy, low-API gravity oil.
