true, and they did. Also barrel had to be changed every 800 odd rounds, quick job screw off / screw on.
HIgh command ordered 4 second burst max. Crews trained for 1 second, aiming [no pun intended] for around 20 shots fired. Had two point biped mount, in the middle for left right fire, or at the front. Could also be fire from pal's shoulder, which would have been defening. But you get the idea that anyone fighting in ww1 and ww2 was pretty much deaf by 1970. My two great uncles, both deaf as posts.
