How many knots do you know ? 4 basic knots for sailors. Bowline. Remember - rabbit comes out the hole, round the tree, back down the hole.. Reef knot - for reefing. Clove hitch - for fenders. Round turn & two half hitches - very useful knot for tying on to a ring etc, very versatile. I'd add: Double fisherman's - for rope loops. Double figure of eight - use this in climbing, tying on.
