V70 drive shaft update. I got the joint reassembled!! Popped out this am on the bike wearing a full set of galloshers (waterproof trousers and jacket) paid 6 huroosss for the CV joint grease. A pal gave me some yesterday, lithium grease, but this is the proper stuff, high temp graphite based and with sufficient levels of viscosity to hold the 6 ball bearings in place in the race to allow assembly. Took 2 hours in total ... and before that quite a few hours staring at it wondering how I was going to assemble it. In the end I did what I thought I'd have to and cracked open the shaft end clip to slid the boot down the shaft. I put the bearing and race on the knuckle, held vertically in the dog food can, then slid the 'tulip down onto it after lining up by eye approx where it should go. When it slid home it was akin to someone saying, we've saved your leg, you'll walk again! A car without a wheel is about as much use as a rungless ladder.
