Axle problems after < half million miles - must have been from a faulty batch.
You could classify that 300d engine and the 240d as dirty diesels. They no longer make them like that because of the emissions rules.
Newer diesels have all kinds of sensors for a cleaner output. But once a sensor goes its Fucked.
As a bonus here is my old e class parked outside the local pub. See a few of these out here. Still going strong..
