I have probably related this before but Fuck it, here it is again Was briefly at college between leaving school and my old man croaking. One of the lecturers was a bloke called Bob Ives. A nice enough, but incredibly boring man. Rumour had it that he had been manager of Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler had taught English at this college a few years before this but was by this time, 1984, one of the biggest rock stars in the world) So we asked him and he confirmed. "I did it for a year or so, but I really couldn't see this denim clad guitar band getting anywhere in the punk era so I gave it up & three months later they signed their record deal" Poor bastard
