Without going into great length in terms of word count I can't (begin to) tell you how satisfying it is
to have a 5+ yr bust-&-in-the-cupboard-now-revived-and-100%-working-well Pioneer CT F950 tape deck. But I'll make an attempt.
I've now got good sound out of it by tweeking the two 'EQ' pots. Mids and highs restored, and earlier set the tape head azimuth on the transport to 'where it sounds best'. Some cleaning contact spray on the record knob and that's about it.
I've begun to make a video on it., some filming of it running, and video will have narration over photos of repairs. First bit of filming I did was just it playing on an unrecorded section of blank tape. It runs very very quiet(ly).
I suppose I do have a gripe. I've taken it apart down to the belts maybe 8 times since 2020. And the last time last night, I managed to not only break a couple of solder connections I lent the transport forward at one point and its metal corner scratched the VU meter plastic. This somewhat soiled my joy. i took the display off today and cleaned the inside. It was dirty and looks better, but I can see the scratch I made ... I think I made it, I know the transport hit the facia, and I guess I did.
Solder joints redid no problem thanks to earlier pictures but the scratch is annoying. Also, there is one small metal washer left in the parts tray ...
