Reeves should use the Budget to unleash this £250bn game-changer

Stamp duty on shares abolished

Quite enough has already been written and said about what might be in this week’s Budget.

To the growing consternation of markets, it has generated more kite-flying over the past several months by our benighted Government than a Kabul skyline.

Much of it, I imagine, will in the event prove misguided. So I won’t at this late stage add to the speculation. Best to hold fire for the likely horror story itself. Except in one regard.

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has made much of her stated aim of reviving the fortunes of Britain’s unloved stock market, and has already backed a number of initiatives aimed at increasing the flow of UK savings into UK-listed shares.
