The North Eastern was beside the railway station which he says was never there. It was. It was the pub
of choice for a drink before the Friday and Saturday dances at the nearby Rink Ballroom. In the bar there I met Whispering Paul McDowell of the Temperence Seven , the first openly gay person I ever encountered.
