| From: Occhio Pazzo 🇬🇧 |
My old man got into the peanut business in the 1950s so I grew up with it and ran it from 1985 to 2000.
I had never heard of a peanut allergy until it was in the media in the 1990s. Within a year I personally knew a dozen people who claimed to have it (including a school friend who had worked at the factory a few times with me in the school holidays but who, in his 20s had to carry an epipen around with him in case he encountered a stray nut).
We had one guy who knocked on the door of the factory seeking information about it.
We got letters from anxious consumers.
Now I don't know anyone who claims to have it.
I'm sure it's a thing. A very rare thing.
