Hamsters vitals to be cut off… Southern Water applies for ban on swimming pools and car washes The company has sought a drought order that could lead to a ban on non-essential uses across parts of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight More than 100,000 people will face water shortages if a rare ban on filling public swimming pools and other non-essential uses is not granted, a water company has said. Southern Water said that, in a worst-case scenario, with a continued lack of rain and without reductions in demand, supplies to 165,000 people in Southampton, Eastleigh and the surrounding areas could be compromised. Ministers are reviewing a drought order requested by the company that could impose a non-essential use ban (NEUB) across parts of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is extremely rare for such bans to be granted. The last time was in 2006 before that, it was 1996.
