Interestingly, If someone were to rebuild the bridge between the med and the atlantic the med would evaporate
in fairly short evolutionary order. Probably within 5,000 years.
We could speed up this process if we put a plug in the bottom and pull it out. There's not enough river inflow or rain to maintain the sea if not constantly fed by the Atlantic.
What's also interesting is that the hole left would be massive and very deep. South east of Sicily there's a rise, and then a steep fall away to maybe 4000 or so meters. From memory.
Also interestingly it would be very hard to just walk about on the empty bottom. It would be hellish hot, maybe 65 degrees, and the extra weight of that 4000 meters of air above would be pressing down on you. 'Atmospheric pressure' would be maybe 1.3 bar? Again I've forgotten, so would need to look it up. But it would essentially be as if Nice were the summit of Mont Blanc and someone at the bottom of the deepest part of the sea were at the base. (although it's fair to say I've forgotten how high Mont Blanc is, but it's not important. what is important is that if we drained the sea we could see riders from the tour de france depart from nice and ride down there. The tour is undergoing financial difficulties because, france, therefore the spectacle of riders passing out under intense heat and pressure while eating nestle bars would bring in increased sponsorship.)
