Hundreds more flights have been cancelled across the UK after an air traffic control failure grounded planes yesterday.
Travel chaos is continuing for a second day as more than 250 flights have been cancelled this morning, following 1,300 cancellations after a fault with the processing system at National Air Traffic Services (Nats) headquarters on Tuesday.
Heathrow Airport, which has halted 246 flights, has warned customers to “only travel if your flight is confirmed to be operating”.
The disruption has prompted calls for Martin Rolfe, the boss of Nats, who is paid £1.5m a year, to resign, after presiding over three meltdowns in four years.
Mr Rolfe said he “always accepts full responsibility” when asked if he was considering his position after the incident. He is set to meet with Heidi Alexander, the Transport Secretary, later today.
He said this morning that Nats had “ruled out” the chaos being caused by a cyber attack, adding that “a very, very thorough and full investigation” would take place.
