Drove thru Salonika yesterday, on the ring road. They’re completely updating it, not closed at all and

still an “interesting” challenge not to be crashed into (very narrow twisting lanes).
I reckon I saw over 10,000 blokes working on it, hundreds of cranes etc. and they were all working too, not standing about looking at a hole. Must be some serious EU dosh involved!

The Thessaloniki Flyover project (upgrading the Eastern Inner Ring Road) is roughly 50% complete, with completion now targeted for May 2027, delayed from earlier 2026 projections. Construction involves heavy, ongoing demolition of existing infrastructure (like the Pylaia and Agios Pavlos bridges) to build a 13km elevated expressway, causing significant traffic disruption.

Impact: The project is causing significant congestion, with experts advising commuters to avoid peak hours (7:00-10:30, 15:00-17:00) and seek alternative routes, such as city center roads or the Dojran border crossing if traveling toward Thassos.

The project, valued at over €380 million, is aimed at reducing traffic congestion by 25-35% upon completion, despite current heavy delays
