That track list, surely the best album ... up there with Revolver, Abbey Rd, The White Album, and The
Beatles Greatest hits Volume II & Volume I
In a final do or die analysis it's between ... no scrap that, it's down to two mostly factors. the output [input surely? ed] of Lennon or McCartney.
The thing about Rubber Soul and Revolver both are strong throughout, with great contributions from Harrisson. Whereas on Sgnt Pepper Lennon great, day in the life, Lucy in the sky with Diamonds.. for me, weakers songs from McCartney and zero of Harrisson.
Let it Be? My fav. is the 'throwaway' Two of Us.
Abbey Road, epic. But for pure stand alone songs 9on both side wall to wall of the disc ,.. it's Rubber Soul VS Revolver. And apart from the tremendous 'She Said She Said', Lennon is weaker on Revolver.
Overall conclusion. Rubber Soul is the ultimate Beatles album, showing the promise of so much more to come, and with a list of relentless no gimmick stright down the line magnificnet songs. A clean breakawqay lyrically from the sugary love songs of the past, a combination of spot on lyrics melded to masterful on point state of the art mature songwriting, they never went on to better (production techniques do not apply)
