UK Budget Wed...

Received this earlier. Notes for sectors.

SECTORS AND STOCKS TO WATCH

All eyes on cable of course, FTSE 100, and a few sectors that could get spicy today.

DYOR etc etc.… you know the drill.

#1 BANKS & FINANCIALS

If the Budget hints at new taxes, banks may shudder, even though they’ve recently caught a bid on rumours they’ll be spared extra levies or regulation.

So, it’s unlikely they'll get hit, but it would wrong-foot all the recent buyers if so. (Potentially a good trapped trader's play.)

What to watch:

Any change to bank levies
Comments on lending, housing, and growth
Tone on regulation

Stocks to watch:

Lloyds (LLOY)
Barclays (BARC)
NatWest (NWG)

#2 HOUSEBUILDERS & PROPERTY

Housing measures are always in play on Budget day… planning reforms, stamp duty, incentives… the usual “stimulate growth” toolkit.

Housebuilders, especially, are sensitive to interest rates, mortgage availability, and government incentives.

What to watch:

Stamp duty changes
Planning reform
Incentives for first-time buyers
Infrastructure spend

Stocks to watch:

Taylor Wimpey (TW)
Persimmon (PSN)
Rightmove (RMV)

#3 UK RETAIL & CONSUMER STOCKS

Anything that hits disposable income hits retail. Budgets can move this sector fast.

What to watch:

Changes to income tax thresholds
VAT tweaks
Cost-of-living measures
Business rate updates

Stocks to watch:

Kingfisher (KGF)
Tesco (TSCO)
JD Sports (JD)

# 4 FINTECH, PAYMENTS & GAMBLING

The Budget is expected to include specific “flash-points” for sectors such as gambling tax reform, stablecoins/crypto payments, plus whatever they throw at fraud reduction.

What to watch:

Gambling tax changes
Digital payments regulation
Stablecoin rules
Anti-fraud measures

Stocks to watch:

Flutter (FLTR)
Entain (ENT)
IG Group (IGG)
Wise (WISE)

Remember, don’t spread yourself too thin.

Figure out what’s already priced in, what’s a 50/50, and what would be a genuine surprise (aka the repricing scramble).

Then shortlist your watchlist and plan your attack.

If in doubt… stay out 😁

Keep the risk managed!

Catch you tomorrow,

Mark
