North Northamptonshire, which has had a Reform majority since May, approved plans to double council tax on its 511 second homes from April 2027 at a meeting on Tuesday. Councils have been able to implement a council tax premium of 100pc since April this year, under legislation passed by the last Conservative government. The council tax premium is predicted to raise more than £500m for the more than 200 councils which introduced the additional levy this year. The Telegraph has campaigned to abolish the premium that affects 170,000 homes out of a total 268,000 second homes in England. There is no escape
